Prickly Heat – The Destroyer of Vacations Everywhere
My Fiance and I go to Cuba Every Year and I get Nasty Heat Rash every time! It’s so disgusting and it can really ruin a trip (especially if you get it near your armpits, between your thighs, and on your face). And that nasty heat rash also inspired me to create this site – hunting for some amazing heat rash prevention and treatment products and testing them out.
Caring For Your Skin After Heat Rash
In this post, I’m talking specifically about how to remedy skin that’s been ruined by Carribean Heat (and other vacation indulgences). I was able to heal the (sensitive) skin on my face using some affordable, natural skin products by Pixi, Andalou Naturals and CosRX, I also used a SUPER affordable sheet mask and Desert Essence Jojoba oil. So, I thought I’d share how I did it.
When I got back from Cuba vacay this year, my heat rash was no longer red and inflamed (it typically dries out after a day or two out of the sun (I’ll talk about that in another post). But the skin on my face was completely drained of all moisture and had no glow! I had scaly, discoloured, sandpaper skin on my forehead and my cheeks. NASTY!
Going back to work after sunny vacay is bad enough! But back to work with lizard face was TRAGIC. I had to get rid of the nasty, scaly, discolouration. But – I also didn’t want to fork over tons of money on a facial or expensive products. So I decided to use products from my own (already very large) skin care inventory.
I LOVE THE ANDALOU NATURALS SENSITIVE 1000 ROSES LINE FOR SO MANY REASONS – HERE’S JUST A FEW:
- This line is SO gentle – the ingredients are specially formulated for sensitive skin – so, it works to restore the pH balance with gentle, natural ingredients (aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, rose water). My sensitive skin has never been irritated by using these products.

Here’s How I got my Skin from Cracked to Glowing Overnight:
- I exfoliated with a GENTLE, natural exfoliator – the one I used was a steal I found at Winners (a store here in Canada).
- Gentle is the key word here – we want to get rid of the dead skin without damaging the skin barrier – use one for sensitive skin.

- Then, I used the Andalou Naturals Floral Toner – I went over my skin with this soothing toner using cotton pads. I did this twice just to make sure I got that surface layer gunk off my face, but once is probably enough.
- After Toner, I used Pixi’s Glow Tonic – this is an awesome toner that encourages exfoliation with glycolic acid.
- After the toner, I went in with a hyaluronic acid face sheet mask.
- I then used the Andalou Moisture 1000 Roses Absolute Serum follow the instructions on your sheet mask.
- After patting all that extra hydration into my skin, I used a concoction of the Andalou Naturals Heavenly Night Cream and Jojoba Oil.
- The final step was to apply COSRX Ultimate Moisturizing Honey Overnight Mask – I apply this in a thin layer
When I woke up the next morning my skin was healed – the mixture of intense hydration and gentle exfoliation was enough to get those dead skin cells to turn over and infuse the skin underneath with moisture. I went to work with a sunkissed glow instead of lizard face!
